Generation 7

Patty Wait

Born 1755 (or1761) Clinton Township Duchess Co, NY

Died 1848 Crawford Co, PA

Married 1778 probably Dutchess County, New York to Oliver Lawrence.

Lawrence was born 1759 NY Flushing, Queens County and died 15 March 1848 Crawford Co, PA

In Oliver Lawrence’s Revolutionary War Pension, he states he was BORN in 1759 at Flushing, Long Island, NY and MOVED to Dutchess County, NY. His FATHER DIED at Clove, Fishkill, Dutchess County when he (Oliver) was about 11 years of age (1769-1770). In 1775 several members of the Lawrence family signed the Articles of Association in Dutchess County as a residents of Dutchess County. Oliver would have been about 14-15 years old. According to Oliver’s pension he enlisted in 1775 or 1776 (age 16-17?) and served several terms in the military during the Revolutionary War.

He lived in Dutchess County until about 30 years (about 1789?) of age when he moved his family to Rennselearville, Albany County, NY. However, he was enumerated on the 1790 census of Dutchess County in the Beekman Township

About 1817 moved the family to Summerhill Township, Crawford County, PA where he died about 1848

I have the census enumerations for Oliver and family in:

1790 Beekman Township Dutchess County, NY

1800 Rennselearville, Albany County, NY

1810 Rennsellearville, Albany County, NY

1820 Beaver Township Crawford County, PA

1830-1840 Summerhill Township Crawford County, PA

At this point, so far as the MTDNA, we are interested in tracing backward on Oliver’s wife, Martha/ Patty Waite.

There are some potential parents or siblings enumerated on the censuses in the same counties at the Lawrences.

On the 1790 census there is a Joseph Wait and even earlier there is a Christopher Waite who signed the Articles of Association in Dutchess County as well as serving as a Revolutionary Soldier from Dutchess County.

ALSO, in Beekman Township 1790 there are several familiar names from some of our other MTDNA families in RI, VT and MA.

One of sons of Martha/Patty and Oliver Lawrence, ……… married …….Bennett. As I followed her lineage back, it crossed back into Coventry, Kent County, Rhode Island which is where Elizabeth Bennett was married to Weaver Carr. Since this marriage is through a son, it has no effect on our MTDNA quest. BUT, it does show potentiality that the families (possibly of different generations) may have known, been acquainted with or even related to one another. I will also make a note about this marriage on the Bennett- Carr connection lineage.

Following are some surname I have run across on other lineages in our MTDNA project.
