MT-DNA-Carr Pedigree

My match with the Carr Pedigree is one of my Genetic Distance 2 matches but is taking me back to Coventry, Kent County, Rhode Island in New England where several of my Genetic Distance 1 matches seem to be taking me. Mutations can occur in Mt-DNA at any time, in any generation, as do mutations in Y-DNA. So, this match and I share an extra mutation not present in some of those in my Genetic Distance 1 matches.

In my initial contact with my match all I had was their earliest Mt-DNA ancestress was Mary Carr born 1825 and dying in 1885.

Apparently, Mary Carr is not an exclusive name. I quickly located two Mary Carrs, both born in 1825 and dying in 1885. One was in Ohio and Michigan and the other one born in Coventry, Kent County, Rhode Island.

I re-contacted my match who verified I should be looking at the one in Coventry, Rhode Island. And….I have already been working on families in Coventry and Kent County, Rhode Island. So, this was another indication I am (hopefully) on the correct trail. Now, how does this match and my other matches relate to one another.

Again, I am not starting my research with living and closer-in relations, and am several generations removed from my match. I suggest I am in the Great-Great Grandparent range so, will begin by calling the first generation in the pedigree 5th Generation. I may correct it at a later date.

I have been unable to figure out the parents of Elizabeth Bennett. Due to her naming a son Rudfus Bennett Carr, I tried to see if Rufus Bennett may have been her father. There is a Rufus Bennett and wife, Ruth, in Coventry but I have not been able to attach Elizabeth to him. Rufus is a son of Hezekiah and I have not been able to show Elizabeth is a part of that family either. There are numerous Bennetts in Coventry as well as Kent County. I will have to keep working with those families to see if and where Elizabeth fits in.

There are numerous Bennett families in Coventry, East Greenwich, West Greenwich and Warwick in 1790-1830 censuses when Elizabeth was alive. Several of the censuses are enumerated alphabetically.

In looking at the 1800 census Joseph, David, Ezekiel and Thomas have females under the age of 10. In 1810 only Ezekiel, Hezekiah and Rufus live in Coventry and the others on the other Kent County towns.

There is another Rufus, son of Abel and Mary Fox. But, he does not appear to be the father of Elizabeth Bennett Carr.

So, we will have to dig deeper…….
