Generations 8-10

Generation 8- Susannah  Miller 1783-after 1851

Susannah Miller was born about 1783 in Caswell County North Carolina to James A and Leannah Horton Miller. She married 4 February 1796 in Rutherford County, North Carolina to Thomas Willis.

Thomas Willis and Susannah Miller had the following children:

Britton

Henry

William M

Keziah born 1806 Hancock County, Georgia (who married William F. (Buck) Cobb

Pamela born about 1816

Louisiana H(orton) ( she had a bunch of names, Louisiana Ann Moselle, Lucy Horton, Louise Susannah, Susie H born about 1820

Possibly Sarah A born about 1830

Also, I am writing this profile up, I am seeing some conflicting information about birth dates with marriage dates. The marriage dates are accurate and both the Thomas Willis family and James A Miller families were in Hancock County, Georgia where James A Miller died in 1822. Leanah Horton Miller won land in the 1833 land lottery as a widow and moved on to Muscogee County? Where she likely died.

Generation 9- Leannah Horton 1760-after 1851

Leannah  Horton was born about 1760 in Caswell County, North Carolina. And died after 1851, probably in Muscogee County, Georgia.

She married James A Miller on 29 November 1785 in Rutherford County, North Carolina.

Leannah was the daughter of Townsend Horton and his unnamed and unidentified wife. An online tree has her name listed as Polly with no last name or dates. The bondsman on the marriage license was Shadrack Jackson who I have not been able to learn much about and need to follow up on him as he may well be a kinsman.

A hint as to the given name of Leannah’s mother may be the given name of her daughter, Lucy Horton or Susie Horton Willis. And she may also have had a sister, Lucy Horton born about 1790 and died 1850 Lawrence County, MS. The sister married David Cook 1782-1850) in 1807 Hancock County, Georgia.

While I have not done enough research yet on this family, as best I can tell at this time is that Leannah Horton and James A Miller had at least some or all of the following children. I am questioning some of the names and will have to verify wat I have.

Elijah married Charlotte Andrews

Rhoda

Lucy Horton married David Cook

Keziah married Matthew Averett Sr

Hiram married Milbrey (last name unknown)

Solomon

Raleigh

Susannah married Thomas Willis

Generation 10- Wife of Townsend Horton

Leannah Horton’s mother is my next brick wall. So far, I have found no name, first or last for her. Leannah was the daughter of Townsend Horton whose birth is recorded in the Overwharton Parish, Stafford County, Virginia parish register in 1740 as the son of Snowden or Snowdall Horton. The Hortons are a Virginia family and reach back into the mid 1600’s in Westmoreland County, Virginia. I am assured by the Horton Y-DNA Project administrators the Virginia Hortons are not a part of the New England Horton family.

Snowden/Snowdall’s wife, according to online trees was Sarah Collier. However, it is Townsend’s wife who would be the Mt-DNA line from Leannah, not Sarah Collier.

I have been in contact with Linda Horton of the Virginia Branch of the Horton Y-DNA Project at Family Tree DNA and she has given me Townsend Horton’s lineage back several generations.

Children of Townsend Horton and his unnamed wife were:

Leannah

Rolly (Rawleigh)

Enos
